Los Angeles–based singer/songwriter Vince Grant, produced by Chris King, wrote the album after years of grappling with the devastating realities of global warming and humanity’s profound impact on the natural world—from environmental destruction and overconsumption to the accelerating loss of ecosystems we depend on..

He then partnered with director Sarah Bitely to translate the music into a cinematic experience — one that portrays a world in peril and the emotional consequences of the catastrophe unfolding around us.

Using stock and found footage allowed Our Brilliant Destruction to remain true to its environmental message not only in subject, but in its method of production. By repurposing existing imagery, the film reduced the need for extensive travel, large crews, new sets, and energy-intensive location shoots—helping minimize its carbon footprint while avoiding disruption to vulnerable landscapes and communities.

The approach also reinforces the film’s central themes: the evidence of climate change is already all around us, captured across decades of news reports, home videos, scientific documentation, and archival records. By transforming these existing images into a new cinematic experience, the film demonstrates how art can create meaning and urgency without demanding more from a planet already under immense strain.
